Dessie is a legend in the Northern Ireland brass band world. He has been playing Principal Cornet in a number of bands for around 40 years. He is the 2008 BBL Solo Champion, and this is the 12th time he has won it. He is a very dedicated playing member of the local brass band world and a shining example to all players old and new. Dessie's (brief) playing history is:

I started banding with the Agnes Street Band in 1965.

After a short period on tenor horn I moved to cornet. I was then promoted to principal cornet aged 19.

I have been the Irish Solo Champion twelve times.

I played with CWA Brass for ten years before joining Laganvale in June 2004.
